About Letchworth

Letchworth, is a town in Hertfordshire, England, with a population of 33,600. It is a former civil parish.

The town’s name is taken from one of the three villages it surrounded (the other two being Willian and Norton) – all of which featured in the Domesday Book. The land used was purchased by Quakers who had intended to farm the area and build a Quaker community. The town was laid out by Raymond Unwin as a demonstration of the principles established by Ebenezer Howard who sought to create an alternative to the industrial city by combining the best of town and country living. It is also home to the United Kingdom’s first roundabout, which was built in 1909.

As one of the world’s first new towns and the first garden city it had great influence on future town planning and the New towns movement; it influenced Welwyn Garden City, which used a similar approach and inspired other projects around the world including the Australian capital Canberra, Hellerau, Germany, Tapanila, Finland, and Mežaparks in Latvia.) There is a link to town planning in Stalingrad through the architect V. N. Semionov and an account of Lenin visiting the town when he visited England for a congress of the Russian Bolshevik party, then banned in Russia.

Suggestions of great restaurants to enjoy your Letchworth Escort Hertfordshire Escorts.

Los Reyes Tapas Restaurant

It’s ‘olé’ rather than ‘cheers’ at this new incarnation of the defunct Kings Arms pub in the centre of Hitchin. Los Reyes “fully embraces Spain”, especially when it comes to sourcing authentic ingredients. The result is a “wonderful” eatery serving up a big selection of “interesting” tapas and more besides, from mojama (air-cured tuna) with caperberries, sweet pickled onions and almonds to morcilla croqetas with apple purée and crushed pine nuts or truffled ‘patatas’ with green harissa alioli. If you fancy something bigger, try the whole salt-baked fish or a rack of sticky, slow-cooked Ibérico pork ribs.

To drink, Meantime ales and lagers add a pubby note to proceedings, otherwise browse the selection of sherries and “great” Spanish wines on offer. Readers are also quick to praise the friendly, helpful staff, and you can reserve tables on the sheltered courtyard at the weekends – in short, “a gem”.

Garden City Brewery

Garden City Brewery are located in the The Wynd, a charming pedestrianised street in the Town Centre, and are open Thursday to Sunday from 12 noon – 10pm Thursday & Sunday and until 11pm Friday & Saturday.

They brew their own beers and serve these on gravity, alongside a selection of guest ales from local breweries and around the UK.

They also serve a large selection of local ciders, tasty bar snacks, wines and spirits.

Adjacent to the brewery is a public car park (free after 18:00 Mon-Sat and free Sunday) and we are 5 mins walk from Letchworth train station.
